"Federated States of Micronesia is an independent island state affiliated with the USA, located in the Pacific Ocean. The original inhabitants settled here 4,000 years ago. The country also owns a part of the ocean where the Mariana Trench is located, with the lowest point on the Earth's surface at a depth of 10,924 m below sea level. In the area we can find two important megalithic archaeological sites - Nan Madol and Leluh. Both were created and flourished between the 8th and 14th centuries. They are surrounded by many legends. Their builders were able to move huge basalt blocks without the use of wheels or metal tools. Some are up to 15 meters long and weigh 50 tons. Nan Madol is located off the east coast of the island of Pohnpei on a hundred artificial islets. Leluh is located on the island of Kosrae, about 550 km to the east.
